The previous Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Houston / Galveston Directive closing the Bolivar Roads Anchorage is hereby rescinded.  VTS will again accept check ins for the Bolivar Roads Anchorage.  Vessels may utilize the Anchorage per the regulations listed in 33 CFR 110.197.

Vessel Traffic Service Houston/Galveston directs no vessel transits into the Bolivar Roads Anchorage due to forecasted gale force winds. Vessels currently anchored in the Bolivar Roads Anchorage will be allowed to check-in for departure only.

 

Gales and strong wind condition may persist through Thursday, February 20.

 

Nearshore seas of 4-6 feet with 7-11 ft offshore are expected.

 

Mariners should conduct a risk assessment and consider these weather conditions before beginning or continuing their transits.

 

Towing vessels with hi/low couplings and multi-barge configurations should pay due regard to these warnings and alter configuration as needed.

 

Vessels at dock should set storm mooring arrangements.

 

Vessels at anchor take all precautions to prevent dragging.

 

Construction and industrial vessels take precautions to ensure work barges, dredge pipelines, and other equipment are safely moored and suspend operations as needed.
