The CRPPA Safe Navigation Committee has made the following recommendation:
For vessels measuring either:
- 950’ or greater Length Overall (LOA) or,
- with a beam of 140’ or greater,
Will require two pilots for transits between Point Celeste (Mile 52.0, AHOP) and the Huey P Long Bridge (Mile 106.1).
For vessels entering the LMR, the second pilot will board at Point Celeste.
For vessels sailing, the second pilot will disembark at Point Celeste.
CRPPA has provided outreach to major shipping companies (MSC, CMA, Maersk, etc.) and local terminal operators regarding this policy.
CRPPA anticipates a July 1, 2025 implementation date and will provide full, official details prior to that date.
Sincerely,
