Vessel Traffic Service Houston-Galveston DIRECTS no vessel movements on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between the Houston Ship Channel and the Texas City Channel and no vessel movements on the Texas City Channel from Light 2 to Light 7 due to dredging operations from 2200 to 0400 (local) today, Monday December 22 to Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025.
VTS may adjust the timing of the closure to take advantage of reduced visibility and natural disruptions to vessel transits. Updates will be broadcast by VTS VHF channels and GovDelivery.
This will effectively prevent towing and piloted vessels from transiting entering or exiting the Port of Texas City, as well as towing vessel transits in and out of Pelican Cut.
Please ensure vessels check in via VHF-FM Channel 05A or contact the Vessel Traffic Service Watch Floor prior to commencing operation. If this project becomes delayed or requires cancellation, please contact the VTS Watch Supervisor at your earliest.
